Andrea Stearns, MSN, FNP-C serves as the Health and Wellness Director for VOA Alaska, bringing more than 36 years of experience as a registered nurse and six years as a Family Nurse Practitioner to her leadership role. She serves as the primary care provider for youth in the adolescent residential treatment program and provides clinical oversight to two registered nurses and a medical assistant while leading health and wellness services that ensure high-quality, integrated care for individuals navigating substance use disorder (SUD) treatment.
Andrea holds a Master of Science in Nursing, is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner, and earned a Master of Science in Complementary and Alternative Medicine. She also holds a graduate certificate in eating disorders and a minor in holistic nutrition, supporting a holistic, person-centered approach that integrates physical health, nutrition, mental well-being, and lifestyle practices to promote long-term recovery.
Throughout her career, Andrea has been deeply committed to adolescent health, with a particular passion for empowering young people to take responsibility for their physical well-being as they navigate SUD treatment. She encourages youth to lead active, healthy lifestyles and believes strongly in leading by example through regular exercise, balanced nutrition, and practical health education.
As Health and Wellness Director, Andrea is recognized for her compassionate and innovative approach, clinical expertise, and ability to foster collaborative, multidisciplinary teams. She works closely with medical and behavioral health professionals to ensure services are trauma-informed, evidence-based, and responsive to the needs of those served by VOA Alaska.
Outside of work, Andrea enjoys hiking, traveling, and outdoor adventure, including rafting the Grand Canyon. She values spending time with her husband and two adult daughters and shares her life with her Cardigan Welsh Corgis, who keep her active and grounded.
